Responsibilities

As a Senior or Principal Town Planner, you will:

  • Prepare and manage a variety of planning applications, appeals, and supporting documentation.
  • Provide high-quality planning advice to clients across key sectors.
  • Conduct site assessments, policy analysis, and pre-application discussions.
  • Represent clients at planning committees, hearings, and community engagement events.
  • Lead client communications and manage projects of varying complexity.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues, contributing to their professional development.
  • Play an active role in business development and the growth of the Edinburgh office.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • MRTPI qualification with post-qualification experience as a Senior or Principal Town Planner.
  • Strong knowledge of Scottish planning legislation, policy, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and meet client expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a consultancy team.

Day-to-Day

Your typical day may include:

  • Meeting with clients to discuss project requirements and provide planning advice.
  • Preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals.
  • Conducting site visits and liaising with local authorities.
  • Attending planning committees, hearings, or public consultation events.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on project strategies and deliverables.
  • Mentoring junior team members and sharing your expertise.
