Senior Ecologist

Location: Leeds (Office-Based with Flexible Working)
Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Our client is an established and highly regarded ecological consultancy delivering pragmatic, high-quality environmental solutions across the UK. With a strong presence in the north of England and a growing project portfolio, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Senior Ecologist to join their Leeds-based team.

This role offers the opportunity to lead ecological projects from inception to delivery while playing a key role in mentoring junior staff and supporting the continued growth of the consultancy.

The Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing a range of ecological projects across development and infrastructure sectors

  • Undertaking and overseeing a variety of ecological surveys (including Phase 1 / UKHab, protected species where licensed)

  • Producing and reviewing high-quality technical reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, and method statements

  • Providing clear, pragmatic ecological advice to clients, planners, and stakeholders

  • Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists and graduates

  • Supporting project delivery, programming, and client relationships

  • Ensuring work is delivered in line with current legislation, best practice, and health & safety requirements


About You

You are likely to have:

  • A degree (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline

  • Proven experience in a consultancy environment at Senior Ecologist level (or ready to step up)

  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy

  • Experience with UKHab surveys and ecological impact assessment

  • One or more protected species licences (desirable but not essential)

  • Membership (or eligibility) of CIEEM

  • A full UK driving licence
