This is a fantastic opportunity to join my client, a well-established, industry-leading Multidisciplinary Consultancy, dedicated to broadening their geographical reach by launching a brand new office location in stunning Scotland. Renowned for lending their expertise to a diverse range of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are currently searching for a capable, experienced Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design, who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a number of challenging new projects across the region. You will have a genuine hand in establishing and leading a team of design professionals, based in the beautiful, historical Scottish Capital City of Edinburgh.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • Overseeing a number of infrastructure projects and developments
  • Managing the day-to-day running of projects, from inception through to successful delivery/implementation
  • Providing mentorship and support to colleagues as they progress through their careers, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Establishing and maintaining important professional relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting technical documents, including reports, drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and more
  • Subscribing to and promoting company policies, procedures, and best practice
  • Enforcing the appropriate health and safety standards and regulations at all times
  • Contributing to the company’s business development strategies, acting as a trusted representative at client meetings, site visits, etc.

Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Possess Chartered Status with a recognised Professional Body (e.g., ICE)
  • Extensive experience in a design-based role, within a UK consultancy or Local Authority setting
  • Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (namely drainage and highways), housing developments, and energy projects
  • Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficient in the use of various software packages (to include Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending reports and other technical documents for submission
  • Experience of managing people and projects within the sector
  • Prior experience of managing client and stakeholder relations, influencing Business Development (BD)
  • Outstanding organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline
  • Experience of authoring Flood Risk and Transport Assessments
  • Experience of working in a public-facing role
