This is a wonderful opportunity to join my client, a respected, sustainably-minded Multidisciplinary Consultancy, dedicated to broadening their geographical reach by establishing a new office location in stunning Scotland. Known for lending their expertise to a diverse range of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are currently on the lookout for a keen, capable Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design, who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a range of challenging projects. You will have a genuine hand in building and leading a newly-established team of design engineers, based near the lively, characterful city of Glasgow.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • Overseeing a range of exciting projects and developments
  • Leading the day-to-day running of projects at all stages of the process, from inception through to successful delivery and implementation
  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues throughout their careers, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Building and maintaining important professional relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting technical documents, including reports, drawings, calculations, and more
  • Upholding company policies, procedures, and best practice
  • Enforcing the appropriate health and safety standards at all times
  • Contributing to the company’s business development strategies, acting as a trusted representative at client meetings, site visits, etc.

Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Possess Chartered Status with a recognised Professional Body (e.g., ICE)
  • Extensive experience in a design role, within a UK-based consultancy
  • Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (namely drainage and highways), housing developments, and energy projects
  • Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficient in the use of various software packages (to include Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending reports and other technical documents for submission
  • Prior experience of leading both projects and people within the sector
  • Experience of managing client and stakeholder relations
  • Excellent organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Master’s Degree (or equivalent qualification)
  • Experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments
  • Experience of preparing Transport Assessments
  • Experience of working in a public-facing role
