Principal Acoustic Consultant – London
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000
Location: London
We are working with a long-established, multi-disciplinary building services consultancy that continues to strengthen its London-based Acoustics team. The group delivers specialist acoustic, noise, and vibration advice across large-scale UK developments and complex refurbishment schemes, working closely with design teams from concept through to delivery.
They are now seeking a Principal Acoustic Consultant to provide technical leadership, oversee project delivery, and play a key role in shaping the direction and growth of the acoustics offering in London.
The role
As a Principal Consultant, you will take overall responsibility for the delivery and technical quality of acoustic services across a wide project portfolio, including:

Leading building and architectural acoustics input from early-stage design through to detailed technical resolution

Managing and reviewing environmental noise and vibration assessments to support planning and development strategies

Overseeing M&E acoustics work, including complex plant noise assessments and mitigation design

Directing site-based noise monitoring programmes and ensuring robust data interpretation

Reviewing and approving technical reports, while confidently presenting findings to clients and project teams

Coordinating closely with internal disciplines (MEP, sustainability, structures) and managing external stakeholder interfaces
You will also play a central role in mentoring and developing junior and mid-level consultants, setting technical standards and supporting team performance.
About you
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Significant experience within an acoustic consultancy environment, operating at Senior or Principal level

Strong technical authority combined with a commercially aware, solutions-driven approach

In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and guidance (including BS 4142, BS 8233, BB93 and ProPG)

Proven experience with acoustic modelling tools such as CadnaA and/or SoundPLAN

A strong background in noise monitoring and assessment methodologies

The ability to manage complex workloads, review others’ work, and maintain high technical standards
Desirable experience

Corporate or full IOA membership and progress toward Chartered status

Experience contributing to EIA or Environmental Statement projects

Construction noise and vibration assessment experience, including Section 61
